2020 Porsche Macan Turbo pricing and specs

Porsche has revealed the updated Macan Turbo, complete with a new engine with more power and performance than before.

Scheduled to arrive in Australia in October, the new Macan Turbo is powered by a new 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 shared with the larger Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan, which develops 324kW and 550Nm – up 30kW on its predecessor – with peak torque available from 1800 to 5600rpm.

Porsche says the new motor makes 10 per cent more power than the outgoing model's 3.6-litre turbocharged unit with 20 per cent less displacement.

Mated with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive, the Macan Turbo hits 100km/h from standstill in a claimed 4.3 seconds when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Package, an improvement of 0.3 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 270km/h – 4km/h more than before.

Fuel consumption, meanwhile, is rated at 10.0L/100km on the combined cycle – not that a typical Macan Turbo buyer is really worried about economy.

The Turbo gets a range of additional standard equipment items compared to its lesser brethren, including a model-specific front bumper, a fixed roof spoiler with double-wing design, adaptive 18-way sports seats, a 665W Bose surround sound system, Porsche Surface Coated Brake system, height-adjustable air suspension, and 21-inch 911 Turbo Design alloy wheels.

According to Porsche, the Surface Coated Brakes feature a tungsten carbide coating on the discs, and offer faster response and less wear compared to conventional cast-iron stoppers. These units are characterised by the high-gloss discs and white painted brake calipers, and are now available as an option on the wider Macan range.

Other specification highlights for the new Macan Turbo include standard LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, Sport Design elements for the side skirts and wing mirrors (in body colour), a sports exhaust system with silver tailpipes, smooth leather upholstery, Alcantara roof lining, brushed aluminium interior package, keyless entry and start, heated front seats, 360-degree cameras, privacy glass, Porsche Active Suspension Management, digital radio, along with wireless Apple CarPlay.

Like models lower in the range, the Macan Turbo features the company's 10.9-inch HD Porsche Communication Management system with navigation, which incorporates real-time traffic information and voice control, an LTE telephone module with SIM card reader, along with a WiFi hotspot and access to Porsche Connect services.

The new Macan Turbo is available to order now, priced from $142,000 plus on-road costs. By comparison, the supercharged V8-powered Jaguar F-Pace SVR – which also claims a 4.3-second dash to triple figures – is priced from $140,020 plus on-road costs, while the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is priced from $149,900 before on-road costs.

Porsche Australia says the first examples of its new performance SUV should arrive in October.
