BMW Australia has released pricing and specifications for the new-generation X6 'Sports Activity Coupe', with first deliveries to commence before the end of the year.
Three models will be available from launch, one diesel and two petrol, commanding between $4000 and $9000 more than the equivalent X5.
Proceedings kick off with the X6 xDrive30d ($121,900), which is powered by a 195kW/620Nm 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel channelling drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-100 time of 6.5 seconds.
Standard equipment highlights include the M Sport Package including M Sport brakes, 20-inch M light alloy wheels in bi-colour finish, Vernasca leather upholstery, aluminium interior trim inserts, ambient cabin lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof, Driving Assistant Professional package, Parking Assistant Plus including a surround view camera, and Live Cockpit Professional incorporating 12.3-inch driver instrument and infotainment displays.
There's also a head-up display, adaptive M suspension, keyless entry and start, automatic tailgate, Digital Key, '2.5' zone climate control, adaptive LED headlights with high-beam assist, a one-year subscription to Connected Package Professional including wireless Apple CarPlay integration, a wireless smartphone charger, and DAB digital radio.
Next in the range is the X6 xDrive40i ($124,900), which mirrors the xDrive30d's specification in terms of equipment but swaps out the six-cylinder diesel for a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six petrol, good for a 5.5-second dash to 100km/h.
Power in the M Performance variant comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 390kW and 750Nm, making for a claimed 0-100 sprint in just 4.3 seconds.
In addition to the stonking powertrain, the M50i picks up 22-inch M light alloy wheels, Adaptive M Suspension Professional, Integral Adaptive Steering, BMW LaserLight headlights, a leather-trimmed dashboard, soft-close doors, heated cup holders, lumbar support, four-zone climate control, a harman/kardon surround sound system, and no-cost option metallic paint.
Several option packages will be available, in addition to a range of individual option items to further personalise their vehicle.
The Indulgence Package ($6600 for M50i, $7800 for xDrive30d/xDrive40i) adds soft-close doors (standard on M50i), active seat ventilation, comfort seats, glass trim pieces, front and rear heated seats, and a massage function for the front seats.
Next is the Iconic Package ($5000, xDrive30d/xDrive40i), which adds 22-inch light alloy wheels, metallic paint, and the new BMW 'Iconic Glow' illuminated front grille – which debuts on the X6.
Finally, the xOffroad Package ($7500, xDrive30d/xDrive40i) which adds off-road styling, adaptive air suspension, and the BMW Display Key.
All models can also be specified with higher-grade Merino leather in Ivory White or Black for $7300 when the Comfort Seat option is selected.
Like the related X5 and X7, the X6 can be optioned with a factory tow kit for $2500, including an integrated hitch receiver, control unit and wiring harness. All X6 models have a 3500kg maximum towing capacity and downball load of 280kg.
Dealers can also supply and fit an approved tongue kit and wiring harness for $700.
