Volkswagen Golf GTI to be auctioned for charity

Volkswagen Australia is putting a very special Golf GTI under the hammer in the name of charity.

The vehicle, which has been wrapped in a design created by acclaimed street artist, Jason Woodside, will go live for auction on eBay from 8pm tonight (August 26) until September 5. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Cancer Council.

It coincides with the launch of Volkswagen Australia's partnership with the charity, which is our nation's peak body for cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support.

Reserve pricing for the one-off GTI is $40,000 – the starting price for Volkswagen's staple hot hatch is currently $46,190 before on-road costs, though it's currently advertised for $47,990 drive-away.

"Cancer Council is the only charity that covers every aspect of every cancer, from research to prevention and support services,” said Jason Bradshaw, director for customer experience and marketing for Volkswagen Australia.

"Through a range of campaigns and events, our partnership will help Cancer Council continue their life-saving work, moving towards a vision of a cancer free future.”

Following the auction, Volkswagen's national dealer network will host Australia's Biggest Car Wash on Saturday, October 5.

Members of the public will be able to have their vehicles cleaned and vacuumed for $10 with all proceeds donated to the Cancer Council's Transport to Treatment service.
