2020 Audi RS Q8 spied virtually without disguise

High-performance crossover looks ready for launch, and could share much of its drivetrain with the new RS6 Avant.

The new Audi RS Q8 has been photographed around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

While earlier prototypes were cloaked by swirly disguise tape, this latest vehicle went out in public with an Audi Sport-inspired livery package.

The red and black scheme does very little to hide the car's styling upgrades. Indeed some of the flourishes only make the changes stand out more than they normally would.

At the front the RS Q8 features three nostrils above the eight-point single-frame grille, more prominent spoilers, and a larger lower air intake.

At the back the RS Q8 has two large oval exhaust tips, a large rear diffuser, a new spoiler on the top of the tailgate, and a set of vertical vents just below the tail-lights.

Naturally the RS Q8 rides on an eye-catching set of alloy wheels matched with wide low-profile rubber.

The RS Q8 is believed to be powered by a version of the company's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Taking a stab in the dark, it could be the same mild-hybrid setup used in the just-revealed 441kW RS6 Avant.

In the RS6 the mild-hybrid V8 setup delivers 800Nm of torque between 2100 and 4500rpm, and is connected to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

With so little disguising this RS Q8 prototype the launch of production version can't be too far away.
