2020 Honda Civic hatch unveiled in the US

The updated 2020 Honda Civic hatchback has been unveiled in the US.

Externally the updated Civic hatch is distinguished by a body colour crossbar for the fog light surround. A similar crossbar has been added to the fake vents on the rear bumper.

Honda says it has also tweaked the design of the hatch's winged grille, although we're having a hard time spotting the differences.

The hatch is also fitted with new alloy wheel designs in either dark grey or black. Top-spec models also feature updated LED headlights with a wider and longer beam.

For the cabin there are new trim pieces for the dashboard, with geometric, painted or brushed black patterns available depending on the grade.

More significantly physical volume dial and buttons have been added to the Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system. There are also physical buttons to adjust fan speed on models fitted with a dual-zone climate control unit.

Other changes include improved voice recognition software, easier-to-use steering wheel controls, an indicator light for the electronic parking brake switch, and cup holders capable of holding larger beverage containers.

On the road the updated hatch should be a little quieter as Honda has added more sound insulation to the car's floor, boot, and front and rear wheel arches.

The car pictured here is the Sport Touring model, which tops the US range.

A word of warning: Civic hatchbacks sold in the US are built in Honda's Swindon, UK, factory, while five-door models — except the Type R — sold in Australia are sourced out of the company's Thai plant, and may not be given the same upgrade as their American counterparts.
