2020 Mercedes-AMG A35 pricing and specs
Mercedes-AMG has revealed pricing and specs for the A35 hatch and sedan, set to arrive in showrooms in September and October respectively.
The A35 will eventually sit below the recently-revealed AMG A45 in the Mercedes-Benz pecking order, but will be in showrooms at least five months before its bigger brother.
Pricing for the A35 hatchback will start at $67,200 before on-road costs, while the sedan will be priced from $69,800 before on-roads.
That makes it $10,000 less than the now-superseded AMG A45, just $3000 more than the ageing Audi S3, but a not-inconsiderable $12,210 more than the similarly powerful, equally all-wheel drive Volkswagen Golf R.
Both are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine making 225kW and 400Nm of torque, mated with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The 100km/h is handled in 4.7 seconds, and you'll be doing 250km/h flat out.
The power is sent to the road through an AMG 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Mercedes says the performance-oriented drivetrain can send up to 50 per cent of torque to the rear axle.
Compared to garden-variety A-Class models, the A35 gains a unique suspension setup and more performance-oriented tune for the stability and traction controls, along with adaptive damping.
The car also gets an AMG grille and bodykit, a more aggressive rear diffuser, 19-inch alloy wheels and a lip spoiler on the bootlid.
Standard equipment in Australia includes electrically-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, and hands-free access to the electrically-operated boot.
Mercedes will also offer an optional AMG Edition 1 package, priced at $6990. It brings a more aggressive AMG aerodynamics package, a set of performance seats, multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels and a smattering of unique styling touches, including Denim Blue paintwork with gold highlights.
