2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series spied with massive rear wing

New GT R Pro-based prototype snapped with huge spoiler and different bumpers to the vehicle photographed earlier this week.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series has been spotted again, this time at the Nurburgring donning some noticeable changes to its aero package.

Compared to the red vehicle spotted just days ago, this development prototype is wearing a massive double rear wing, something we haven't seen previously.

The front bumper is also a little different to the red prototype we saw earlier this week, appearing to borrow the chunkier design from the GT R Pro which also incorporates flics on either side. Very racy.

We can see some differences in the rear bumper on this vehicle, too, including a more prominent diffuser treatment, and a rougher, stacked layout for the quad-tipped exhaust – the GT R and GT R Pro both have large central exhaust tips.

The AMG GT R Black Series, or AMG GT Black Series (whatever it'll be called), will serve as the pinnacle of the performance division's current flagship coupe, continuing a long line of 'Black Series' models dating back to the mid-2000s.

It's almost certain the Black Series GT will be powered by a beefed-up version of the company's ubiquitous 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, developing somewhere in the vicinity of 470-500kW.

Currently, the rear-driven GT R and GT R Pro make 430kW and 700Nm. It's possible the Black Series version could get the added traction of all-wheel drive for extra corner-carving ability and grip off the line.

The AMG GT R Black Series should make its debut sometime in 2020, perhaps at the Geneva motor show in March.

From there, sales will likely kick off in Europe in the months after the car's debut, while Australia will likely have to wait until late 2020 or early 2021 to see the AMG GT R Black Series in local showrooms.
