2020 Chevrolet Blazer ‘XL’ spied

Chevrolet's larger, sportier crossover will have seven seats and largely overlaps with the Holden Acadia sold in Australia.

The new larger Chevrolet Blazer 'XL' has been spied undergoing testing in Germany, of all places.

The location where this prototype vehicle was spotted is a little surprising given GM sold its Opel and Vauxhall brands to the PSA Group in 2017, and shuttered the Chevrolet brand in much of Europe in 2015.

Sources have told GM Authority the seven-seat Blazer is being developed for China, but could also be sold in South Korea and South America.

Given these details it's unlikely the Blazer XL will be built in right-hand drive.

It's understood the Blazer XL will keep the Blazer's 2863mm wheelbase, but its rear overhang will grow by around 140mm. The new 5000mm body will allow the fitment of a third row of seats, bringing passenger capacity up to seven people.

The Blazer XL will not be sold in North America, where the similarly sized GMC Acadia (sold in Australia as the Holden Acadia) occupies the seven-seat niche below the longer eight-seat Chevrolet Traverse, and the more rugged V8-powered Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban.

Under the bonnet, the Blazer XL will probably be available with a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, and a naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6.
