Honda has recalled the 2003 Accord and MDX to have their like-for-like Takata airbag replacements removed, and subbed for a non-Takata alternative.
As with all Takata recalls, the campaign surrounds airbag inflator propellant which can degrade when exposed to heat and humidity. If a vehicle fitted with a faulty airbag is involved in an accident, the metal inflator housing can explode or rupture under too much internal pressure.
If the housing ruptures, metal fragments could shoot through the airbag cushion and into the cabin, creating a risk of injury or death to occupants.
A total of 1360 cars are included in the recall – a VIN list is attached here.
Honda will contact owners of the affected vehicles and tell them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.

The latest ACCC figures show 3.2 million airbags (78.9 per cent) have been replaced during the Takata recall campaign, leaving 600,000 vehicles (14.8 per cent) on the road with Takata airbag inflators still fitted.
A further 6.3 per cent of vehicles originally included in the recall have been written off, scrapped or unregistered for more than two years, meaning they can't have their airbag replaced.
