2021 Fisker SUV teased with ‘California’ sunroof

Henrik Fisker has teased his titular automaker’s upcoming electric SUV will come with a massive, opening sunroof.

Fisker tweeted the as yet unnamed 2021 Fisker SUV will be available with something he refers to as the 'California package'.

The option will make the SUV “all open, without being a soft top”. This could also mean the roof will retract entirely à la the Jeep Wrangler, albeit without the use of a fabric top.

So far, only teaser photos and design sketches have been released of the upcoming SUV, expected to sell for $US40,000 ($55,000). That price puts it smack bang against the upcoming Tesla Model Y ($US39,000) which has a fixed panoramic glass roof, albeit an enormous one that takes up almost the entire roof.

The more expensive Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron quattro all have fixed, panoramic glass roofs. Mercedes Benz’s upcoming EQC has a sliding sunroof but it’s a regular-sized affair. How very 20th century.

So far only a few teaser photos and sketches have been released of the Fisker SUV, the first production car to bear Fisker’s name since the svelte Karma produced by Fisker Automotive. That company went bankrupt and had its assets bought up by Chinese parts supplier Wanxiang Group.

Fisker Inc. plans to introduce the SUV before the previously revealed EMotion luxury sedan flagship, which Fisker has said would be priced around three times higher. The projected range of the Fisker SUV will be around 500km, comparable to the Tesla Model Y.
