Volvo has priced its hottest XC60, the hybrid-powered T8 Polestar, to go head-to-head with the BMW X3 M40i
With a sticker price of $99,990 before on-road costs when it arrives at the end of August, the XC60 T8 Polestar is $90 more than the inline-six powered BMW but $3440 cheaper than the Mercedes-AMG GLC43.
It replaces the T8 R-Design, but the existing D5 and D6 range remains unchanged.
That's a serious price tag, but the T8 Polestar is putting down some serious numbers to back it up. Thanks to a four-cylinder twin-charged (turbocharged and supercharged) petrol engine and an electric motor, it pumps out a combined 311kW and 670Nm – up 46kW and 170Nm on the aforementioned X3 M40i.
The sprint to 100km/h takes just 5.2 seconds. What's more, the XC60 has a 10.4kWh lithium-ion battery under the rear floor good for around 45km of pure-electric driving on a full charge.
Involved in the leap from the regular XC60 line-up is a host of chassis upgrades, a set of 21-inch alloy wheels, and stickier tyres, along with a smattering of exterior tweaks.
The cabin gets a sports steering wheel, coloured seatbelts, and unique trim pieces for the dashboard, along with the requisite nappa leather trim and fully digital instrument binnacle.
