2020 Audi e-tron 50 unveiled

All-wheel drive capability comes courtesy of an electric motor for each axle. Together they give the e-tron 50 a total of 230kW of power and 540Nm of torque.

Both motors are hooked up to a 71kWh battery pack. According to the WLTP test cycle, the crossover will have a range of 300 kilometres per charge.

The crossover supports charging from standard home outlets, as well as 400V industrial charging points, and 120kW fast chargers. Hooked up to one of these units, the e-tron 50's battery can be replenished to 80 per cent within half-an-hour.

The e-tron 50 is said to require 7.0 seconds to accelerate from 0-100km/h, while the top speed is electronically limited to 190km/h.

Available equipment on the e-tron 50 includes a digital instrumentation screen, two touchscreen systems built into the dashboard, and camera pods instead of traditional wing mirrors.

Compared to the existing e-tron 55, the new 50 model is down 35kW of power and 21Nm of torque. Its 0-100km/h time is 0.5 seconds slower, and the top speed has been reduced by 10km/h.

Perhaps most importantly, the 50's battery pack is down 24kWh of capacity, which cuts its WLTP range rating by 100 kilometres.

The new e-tron 50 variant will go into production later this year, with sales in the UK beginning in 2020. Pricing for the new model has yet to be announced.

We're waiting to hear back from Audi's local division regarding Australian availability and timing for the e-tron 50, and are awaiting a response.

The higher-spec e-tron 55 is due to hit local showrooms in 2020, having been delayed by production shuffling caused by the WLTP emissions regulations in Europe.
