Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept on display at Pebble Beach

Jaguar’s 75th anniversary celebrations continued over the weekend with the unveiling of the one-of-a-kind Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance Concept Car Lawn.

Finished in satin matte pearlescent white and striking black, and with a dark, dramatic interior to match, the XJ75 is Jaguar’s first customised version of the XJ luxury saloon.

The front, rear and side skirts swoop low to the road while the 22in bespoke black alloys dominate the concept’s profile.

Inside the contrast continues with white air vents, veneers and stitching set against the jet leather and suede interior.

The centre console-mounted clock, engineered and designed by the British Bremont Watch Company and hand assembled in Switzerland, is a stylistic climax and the focal point of XJ75’s interior.

Jaguar Cars managing director, Mike O’Driscoll, said the XJ75 Platinum Concept was designed to both celebrate the marque’s past and acknowledge the increasingly personal nature of today’s luxury cars.

“The XJ is thoroughly modern, and captures the innovative and daring character that our founder Sir William Lyons built into every Jaguar. And the design team clearly had some fun making their first one-of-a-kind XJ design concept in that spirit,” Mr O’Driscoll said.

A view backed up by XJ chief designer, Giles Taylor, who admitted they played up the vehicle’s British flair to “really have some fun”.

“From a pure design perspective, the XJ75 Platinum Concept is foremost about emphasising the striking proportion and presence of the new XJ. At the same time, the pure sporting character of XJ is brought to the fore by keeping the car's clean graphic approach and further lowering its stance,” Mr Taylor said.

Based on the 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged, the XJ75 is powered by a 5.0-litre direct-injection V8 which produces 350kW of power and 575Nm of torque.

The big numbers don’t stop there either, with a 1200-watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and no fewer than 20 speakers to disperse the soundwaves throughout the cabin.
