Land Rover Defender: Classic kits bring old off-roaders into 2019

Land Rover will offer classic Defender owners a way to subtly bring their tired off-roaders into 2019.

The brand today announced a set of 'Upgrade Kits' for Defender 90 and 110 variants built between 1994 and 2016.

There's a small range of upgrades available initially, starting with a set of 18-inch alloy wheels designed to fit all models sold since 1994, nicked from the Works V8 Defender (pictured).

Cars sold since 2007 are eligible for the Suspension Upgrade Kit, which brings a unique suspension tune designed to better suit on-road driving with revised coils, dampers, anti-roll bars, links and bushings.

The same pool of cars can also be fitted with the Handling Upgrade Kit, which gains the same suspension changes and the uprated brake discs, calipers and pads used on the Works V8. The aforementioned 18-inch alloy wheels are also part of the package.

Finally, the MY2012 2.2-litre TDCi can be fitted with the same suspension and braking updates mentioned above, new performance tyres, and an engine upgrade which liberates an extra 40PS (29kW). That takes peak power to 119kW, working with 463Nm to deliver a 170km/h top speed.

Land Rover Classic will offer the wheels, suspension and handling packages through its dealers in Europe, but the more in-depth kits required a visit to Land Rover Classic's workshop.
