2020 Seat Ateca spied

Spain's sibling to the VW Tiguan will be getting a mid-life update soon, though the changes appear to be minor.

The facelifted Seat Ateca has been spied during development testing in the Austrian Alps, ahead of an anticipated launch sometime next year.

Despite the camouflage wrap adorning the front end it doesn't look like there will be drastic changes for the Spanish crossover, likely limited to revised bumper details and rejigged headlights.

There's also no camouflage at the rear of this early prototype, though it's believed there will be some minor changes in the pipeline for the tail-lights and bumper.

It's unclear whether Seat has more upgrades in store for the interior and the powertrain line-up, but given its Volkswagen parent's electrification push we could see the availability of 48V mild-hybrid technology along with the potential for plug-in hybrid or electric versions.

For those who don't know, the Ateca is Seat's twin to the Skoda Karoq, both being slightly smaller in size than the five-seat Volkswagen Tiguan. All three crossovers share their MQB underpinnings, though.

The facelifted Ateca is anticipated to debut in its final form sometime in 2020, but the Seat brand is off the table for Australia so don't expect to see them on local roads anytime soon.
