2020 Audi S3 sedan spied

The new Audi S3 will be more powerful and, based on these pictures, a more aggressive-looking proposition than the current car.

Audi's smallest sedan, the upcoming S3 four-door, has been snapped wearing heavy disguise.

The new performance sedan might be well covered, but a few things are clear. For one, the product planners at Audi aren't going to be drawn into making the S3 into a purely style-focused 'four-door coupe' like the Mercedes CLA and BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Instead, the S3 has a fairly conventional silhouette, looking a bit like a shrunken A4 in profile. The headlamps are angular and aggressive, and the grille is a prominent unit similar to that used on the Q3.

Being an S3, this particular mule has large air intakes down low, too. With scalloped flanks and pumped-up wheel arches, along with a crease running the length of the car's doors, it adopts a number of Audi's latest corporate cues. Surprised? Us neither.

Down back, the rear lights appear to be a more aggressive interpretation of the slim units on the current car. The lighting signature is also in keeping with the latest Audi designs, naturally.

When it launches, expect the S3 to get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine making upwards of 220kW, mated with a dual-clutch transmission.

The interior is likely to mirror that of the new Q3, with Audi's latest MMI touchscreen infotainment system.
