2020 Audi Q5 spied

Audi's updated mid-sized SUV has been snapped out and about during testing, and it's ready to take on the BMW X3.

It's clearly facelift season at Audi, with the reworked Q5 SUV snapped out and about during testing.

The new BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC rival will get a new nose inspired by the updated Audi Q7, with a more prominent grille and pumped-up 'skid plate' in the lower bumper.

The headlights look like they've been given new internals, with a metal strake running through their core, although we'll have to wait for an undisguised car for a closer look.

Given where the camouflage is focused on the car's flanks, we'd suggest the wheel arches and side skirts will get a tweaked look as well. The new Q3 and Q3 Sportback have pronounced hips and swollen guards, a trait the Q5 could also gain in its mid-life refresh.

Down back, there are detail changes to the car's bumper and exhaust treatment, while the LED taillights appear to have new internals as well.

Behind the wheel, the Q5's interior is expected to get Audi's latest MMI infotainment system and a refreshed dashboard design. If the new A4 is a guide, the car's dash-mounted touchscreen will grow to 10.1-inches and the Virtual Cockpit will get a mild update.

The new Q5 is likely to get a longer-range plug-in hybrid variant, too, although Audi hasn't confirmed any details about what will power the refreshed range.
