2020 Audi SQ7 revealed

Audi has unveiled the facelifted SQ7 TDI, ahead of its arrival in the first half of 2020.

Central to the SQ7 is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre diesel engine pumping out 320kW of power and a whopping 900Nm of torque, identical outputs to the outgoing model.

Thanks largely to an electrically-driven compressor designed to slash turbo lag, peak torque is available between 1250rpm and 3250rpm. Despite its considerable size, the SQ7 will hit 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds and keeps pulling to an electronically-enforced 250km/h top speed.

The new SQ7 runs with the same clever roll-stabilising technology as its predecessor, too. When the car is pitched into a corner, its 48V system powers a set of anti-roll bars that actively fight body roll, helping the SQ7 sit flatter through the bends. As with the engine, the system has been carried over from the current model.

Audi has made the biggest changes when it comes to styling, inside and out. Like the wider Q7 range, the new SQ7 wears a chunkier grille and bumper treatment than before, with mildly reworked headlamps and LED detailing.

Down back, the taillights have new graphics to match those of the latest A7 and A6, while the bumper and diffuser have been treated to some detail changes as well. A new alloy wheel design rounds out the changes.

Behind the wheel, the Q7 has been given Audi's latest dual-screen infotainment system. A new version of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is available, as is a head-up display.

As before, five or seven-seat configurations are available (depending on market), with the former offering between 865L and 2050L of luggage capacity. The Q7 gets an electric tailgate as standard equipment, with foot-activated gesture control available as an option.

The SQ7 offers available cabin features like configurable ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, power soft-close doors, a Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System, along with air fragrances and ionisation.

Compared to the regular Q7, the SQ7 offers sportier seats and the option of red leather trim for the seats. There's also unique readouts in the digital instruments headlined by a clear, centrally-oriented rev counter.

As before, there's a smattering of brushed metal inserts scattered around the pedals, side sills and touch points to indicate the SQ7's specialness as well.
