Tesla Model 3 AWD Long Range joins Australian line-up

Alex Misoyannis • The Tesla Model 3 AWD Long Range model currently offered overseas will form part of the Tesla Australia Model 3 spread, the company has confirmed.

Priced from $85,000 before on-road costs and luxury car tax, the new further-travelling, all-wheel-drive Model 3 variant slots into the middle of the range, between the cheaper Standard Range Plus and sporty Performance.

The latter has received a price increase from Tesla and the Performance Upgrade Pack, up $6,200 to $91,200 before on-roads. It's also gained the option of a white interior.

Powering the Long Range is a lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors – one on each axle – which deliver 620km of range on the NEDC cycle (or 544km on the stricter WLTP cycle recently introduced in Europe). It can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, and can achieve a top speed of 233km/h.

Standard equipment is identical to the top-spec Performance, meaning buyers get 18-inch aero wheels, Autopilot semi-autonomous driving capabilities and Tesla’s full ‘Premium Interior’ package.

It includes 12-way electrically-adjustable front seats, heated front and rear seats, a premium 14-speaker sound system and the central feature of the entire cabin, a 15-inch touchscreen.

It also comes standard with LED fog lamps, heated power-folding side mirrors and a tinted glass roof. The only available options are the ‘Full Self Driving Capability’ package ($8,500) and a range of premium paints consisting of Solid Black ($1,050), Midnight Silver Metallic ($1,400), Deep Blue Metallic ($1,400) and Red Multi-Coat ($2,800).

As with all Model 3s, the Long Range is capable of charging via the brand’s wide Supercharger network, including the upcoming V3 units that deliver charging speeds up to 250kW.

"In order to make purchasing our vehicles even simpler, we are standardising our global vehicle lineup and streamlining the number of trim packages offered for Model S, Model X and Model 3," a Tesla spokesperson told CarAdvice.

"We are also adjusting our pricing in order to continue to improve affordability for customers. Like other car companies, we periodically adjust pricing and available options."

Deliveries for new Model 3 Long Range AWD orders commence in September.
