Ferrari 812 Superfast Spider coming in September – report
Could a version of Ferrari's ultra-powerful ultra-GT be launching in September. Owner forums would suggest the answer is yes.
Ferrari could be readying a drop-top version of its 812 Superfast grand tourer, according to owners forum users
The report originates from a handful of users of the FerrariChat forum, who claim to have received invites to a Maranello reveal event for the car on the 2nd of September from the Prancing Horse.
The 812 Spider, as it will likely be dubbed, is likely to be a low-volume offering with a short production run, though it's unlikely to have a strictly numbered build like LaFerrari, or the Monza SP1 and SP2 exotics.
The new convertible is set to utilise the same powertrain as the 812 Superfast coupe, meaning a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing 588kW of power and 718Nm of torque.
However, the additional heft of the Spider’s folding roof – expected to be a folding hardtop, if rumours from November 2018 are to be believed – means the drop-top's 100km/h sprint will likely be a slightly slower than its fixed-roof sibling.
The last large convertible Ferrari offered as a full-production model was the Superamerica, a drop-top version of the 575 Maranello. A one-off convertible version of the 599 GTB was created, but neither the 599 or F12 Berlinetta were offered with proper 'Spider' variants.
FerrariChat members also claim that a convertible version of the F8 Tributo, dubbed the F8 Tributo Spider, is on track for a reveal later in September, with one user claiming the covers will be taken off on the 13th.
