Eight Lexus LFAs heading to Australia

Lexus Australia has announced there's been high demand for the exotic Lexus LFA coupe, which has forced the company to increase Australian production of the vehicle from five to eight. The first example will hit our shores in April 2011.

Lexus was planning to sell just five of these crazy carbon fibre coupes down under, but with the success of the 'F' range, including the snarling Lexus IS F and 'F' variants of the IS250 and new IS350, the sporting segment of the brand has really taken off.

Tony Cramb, Lexus Australia chief executive, said in a recent report,

"Well before we confirmed five LFAs for Australia we had more than enough solid enquiries to quadruple that allocation but we were caught well short of market demand - we've been overwhelmed by the response to the LFA. There is no doubt that our growing portfolio of 'F' product is resonating with customers."

Luring demand is the 4.8-litre V10 engine that's built in conjunction with Yamaha. It produces the most glorious-sounding 412kW you could ever imagine. The mighty engine has a redline cut-off of 9500rpm and allows the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and go onto a top speed above 300km/h.

Production of the Australian versions is said to commence in December this year.
