2020 Acura MDX, mystery flagship sedan leaked

Acura's next-generation MDX SUV and a mysterious large sedan have been uncovered by a curious owner.

The owner of a current-generation RDX SUV was digging through the software on his car's infotainment system and came across pictures of the two models by accident.

"I was digging around images in the com.android.systemui package located on the RDX, loaded it into android developer toolkit, and low and behold, they have had images of the unreleased 2020 MDX on our RDX this whole time," the Acurazine forum member posted.

"It is definitely different then (sic) what is currently released, and it fits the look of what they have leaked so far but with covers over the car... Feast your eyes on the 2020 MDX, you are the first to see it, sorry to spoil the fun Acura."

Aimed at the North American market, Acura is Honda's luxury arm – and the MDX is its large SUV 'rival' to the BMW X5 and Audi Q7.

With a new grille flanked by slim, hawkish headlights and more pronounced lower air intakes than the current model, the MDX's look is in keeping with cars like the Precision Concept, revealed at the 2016 Detroit motor show.

Meanwhile, the source code also contained images of a mysterious large Acura sedan. Although the poster suggested they're a new mid-sized, 3 Series-rivalling TLX, it seems more likely the pictures are of a fresh flagship sedan to go head-to-head with the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.

American media has suggested the large sedan could debut at Pebble Beach next month, with power from a V6 engine. There's been talk about a replacement for the Honda Legend in the USA – the car pictured here is a natural fit for that role.

We'll have to wait until the Pebble Beach Concurs d'Elegance kicks off on August 13.
