Volkswagen Scirocco production reaches 100,000

Volkswagen has just signaled its 100,000th sale of the new Scirocco. Autoeuropa, the Automoveis plant in Portugal where the Scirocco is built, celebrated the milestone through the rolling out of a fully-optioned Volkswagen Scirocco R version in Rising Blue Metallic.

The current model (third generation) is only going through its second year of sales, since being introduced in 2008. Volkswagen sold just under 800,000 of the previous generation Sciroccos since the Golf-derived model first went on sale in 1972 (first generation).

Autoeuropa Plant Manager, Andreas Hinrichs said in a recent report,

"The Scirocco is one of the most important cars that we produce. For myself personally, it was a moving moment."

Although the Volkswagen Scirocco isn't currently available in Australia through Volkswagen's dealer network, import laws have allowed the vehicle to be imported under the 'grey import' scheme if you really want to get your hands on one of these super hot hatches.
