AddArmour APR Audi RS7: World’s fastest armoured car revealed

Armoured vehicles based on production models aren’t a new concept, but you haven’t seen one like this before. Meet the AddArmour APR Audi RS7.

As reported by Carscoops, the AddArmour RS7 is claimed to be the fastest armoured car in the world, this vehicle has been given a host of upgrades to make it not only resistant to small arms fire but also to give it a manic top speed of 325km/h.

From the outside, it looks like your ‘average’ RS7. Underneath the skin, though, there’s polycarbonate weave, which is not only 10 times stronger than ballistic steel, but also 60 per cent lighter. There's also special windows with a “multi-layer mixture of polycarbonate and ballistic glass”.

Other features include pepper spray dispensers, a custom smokescreen system, a “sonic sound cannon”, blinding lights, run-flat tires and electric shock door handles that should stop would-be assailants from forcing themselves into the vehicle. There’s also a mine and explosives detection system, 360-degree night vision cameras, and an "overpressure gas detection unit with onboard gas masks and air tanks to supply filtered fresh breathing air”.

The vehicle’s front bumper has a built-in barrier so you can ram obstacles without damaging the radiator, while there’s biometric gun racks in the boot and a global 911 concierge service to alert authorities you need backup.

Under the bonnet, the RS7’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 has been given an APR Stage II tune which boosts outputs with 567kW (760hp) and 1085Nm, to compensate for the added weight of the armour and other modifications – the armour adds around 91kg alone, about the same as a large adult.

The company claims 0-60mph (0-96km/h) is dispatched in just 2.9 seconds, with top speed rated at 325km/h. We’d argue most criminals won’t be able to outrun this cop car unless they’re piloting an exotic supercar.

Jeff Engen, president of AddArmour, told Carscoops in a statement: “With the new AddArmor APR RS7, we wanted to demonstrate how today’s armouring technology allows drivers to pick from a wide range of cars not normally associated with armored vehicles”.

Pricing in the US starts at $205,000 (AUD $294,462), which is $91,100 (AUD $130,856) more than the standard RS7 in America.

Prospective buyers can also bring their own RS7 and add packages that incorporate some of the features available from a more reasonable US$28,000 (AUD $40,219).
