Volkswagen ID.3 dashboard revealed

Volkswagen's first mass-produced electric vehicle, the ID.3, will get a dual-screen infotainment system and a gear selector inspired by the BMW i3.

In a video that's since been removed from YouTube, Volkswagen reveals the ID.3's minimalist dashboard layout, which is dominated by screens. The images you see here were captured by Inside EVs.

The centre console is topped with a screen running what appears to be a variation of the infotainment system debuted in the Touareg SUV, below which sit capacitive climate control sliders.

The buttons below those sliders also appear to be touch-based, although it's hard to see in the video.

The driver is faced with another free-standing screen, which features three cards arranged horizontally. Off to the right-hand side is a BMW i3-aping rotating gear selector.

Natural Voice Control, something BMW and Mercedes-Benz have both made a central element of their new infotainment systems, will feature.

Along with the ID, these pictures could offer a hint as to what we're expecting from the eighth-generation Golf, which will also get a dual-screen infotainment setup.

The ID.3 is expected to launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but we won't see it Down Under until 2022 at the earliest.
