The Formula Edition gets unique wheels, a few styling tweaks and a unique badge compared to the regular Koleos Zen.

Renault Australia has leveraged its racing connection to create the Koleos Formula Edition, a regular mid-sized SUV wearing a slightly sportier suit.

Based on the Nissan X-Trail's platform, the Koleos is comfortably Renault's best-seller in Australia. It's registered 1040 sales year-to-date, and competes in one of the nation's most competitive segments.

Based on the top-selling front-wheel drive Zen, the Formula Edition comes with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, black exterior mirrors, silver side steps and a Formula Edition sticker on the boot.

Just “under 400 cars” will be built, finished in a choice of black, grey or white. It's priced from $36,490 drive-away, or $1500 more than the regular Zen 4x2.

Like the Zen, it comes with an electrically-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, keyless entry, fake leather trim, and the option of a panoramic sunroof.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre petrol engine making 126kW and 226Nm, mated with a CVT transmission. Renault offers all-wheel drive on its Koleos range, but it won't be available on the Formula Edition. F1 cars are two-wheel drive, after all...

The new Formula Edition is in showrooms now.

Cheers to Henry for the tip!
