2020 Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato revealed

Aston Martin has revealed the final design of the limited-edition DBS GT Zagato, ahead of its scheduled production run next year.

Just 19 examples of the DBS GT Zagato will be produced, paired with the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation to complete the DBZ Centenary Collection.

Prices started at £6 million ($10.79m) for the set, but all 19 collections have reportedly been accounted for, so you’ve already missed out if you haven’t ordered one.

In terms of the design, Aston Martin says it has taken the ‘standard’ DBS Superleggera and re-skinned it with the voluptuous shapes that adorned the DB4 GT Zagato.

Up front there’s a new ‘dynamic’ grille that features 108 individual diamond-shaped carbon-fibre pieces. When the vehicle is stationary, the pieces sit flush to complete the vehicle’s “beautiful formed exterior”, but when the DBS GT Zagato is fired up, each piece opens to feed air into the twin-turbo V12 engine with a movement that appears to “flutter into life”.

“This is a car that is not only focused around beauty, but drama too. Our dynamic grille gives us an opportunity to provide the car with two very different identities,” said Marek Reichman, chief creative officer for Aston Martin.

“When parked, DBS GT Zagato will almost look like it’s resting, but with the rear of the car still appearing muscular and primed for action. Only on start-up will the car truly become alert and ready to perform, delivering both an aural and visual treat for onlookers.”

In addition to the special exterior appointments, Aston Martin has incorporated a camera-operated rear-view mirror to allow for the full-length carbon-fibre roof – because there’s no rear windscreen.

“Form and function are constantly in battle with one another, but this is a great example of where we have been able to utilise modern technologies to ensure no concession has been made on either side. It was important to me and our teams to deliver something as beautiful as the original DB4 GT Zagato and I feel that we have achieved that with this model and I can’t wait to see it in the metal,” Reichman added.

Further details for the DBS GT Zagato will be revealed in the coming months in the lead-up to production commencing. Stay tuned.
