2019 Nissan Navara revealed for Europe

Nissan Europe has revealed the facelifted 2019 Navara ute, headlined by a revised design, upgraded suspension and increased payload.

On sale now across Europe, the new Navara is backed by an industry-leading five-year/160,000km warranty in the region, and also offers an all-new six-speed manual transmission.

Under the skin, Nissan has fettled the suspension to improve the ride, handling and comfort of the vehicle, while front and rear disc brakes are standard across the range for enhanced stopping power. The front discs now measure 320mm (up from 296mm), while the rear units measure 308mm.

The second generation of the Navara’s five-link rear suspension setup sees a 55-95kg increase in payload for King Cab models, and a 54kg-114kg increase in Double Cab variants – now 1165kg and 1115-1180kg respectively.

Additionally, the King Cab and Double Cab versions boast a GVM of 3200kg and 3250kg respectively. The rear suspension has also been lifted by 25mm and given two-stage coil springs for enhanced “vehicle posture” for a “more formidable stance”.

There’s been modifications to the suspension up front as well, which Nissan says reduces required steering effort and increase handling comfort during low-speed manoeuvres.

Also new to the European version is Intelligent Trailer Sway Assist, which makes minute corrections in individual wheel braking and torque reduction to stop a trailer swaying.

The Navara continues to offer other driver assistance systems like autonomous emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control and 360-degree Intelligent Around View Monitor – AEB is currently not available for Australian models.

Inside, the updated ute picks up the latest NissanConnect infotainment system with built-in 4G WiFi hotspot, embedded TomTom Map with over-the-air updates, Google Satellite and Street View, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The display itself now measures 8.0 inches, up from the previous 7.0-inch unit.

From a design perspective, there’s larger 17-inch wheels on lower-grade models, new wheel designs across the range, and updated LED headlights on high-spec models with a new gloss-black inner shell.

European versions are powered exclusively by a 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel, which is now certified to Euro 6d-TEMP standards.

The base engine (now with two turbos instead of one) makes 120kW at 3750rpm and 425Nm at 1500rpm (up 22Nm), while the higher tune develops 140kW and 450Nm at the same revs.

Fuel consumption is rated at 6.9-7.0L/100km for the entry-level version, and 7.0-7.4L/100km for the higher tune. All fuel consumption values are based on the combined WLTP test cycle.

Buyers in Europe can only have the lower-tune engine with the new six-speed manual, while the 140kW version is available with both six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmissions – the latter has also been revised for enhanced comfort, refinement and responsiveness.
