2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA200 pricing and specs

Mercedes-Benz buyers will pay a hefty price to stand out from the crowd in the new CLA 200 coupe-like sedan.

Despite sharing its underpinnings with the more conventionally-designed A-Class sedan, Mercedes-Benz has added a $10,000 premium to the CLA200's list price, starting from $59,500 before on-roads.

The $10,000 difference does bring with it some specification differences, but the CLA and A-Class have common interiors, platforms and engines.

Although they're built on the same underpinnings, the CLA has a unique design. The two cars have the same wheelbase, but the CLA has a sleeker, lower roofline and a larger boot.

The front and rear tracks have also been expanded, and it's 34mm wider and 139mm longer than the sedan. It's actually longer bumper-to-bumper than the current C-Class.

The CLA200 comes standard with a multi-link rear suspension and Mercedes-Benz's more sophisticated climate control option, part of the $3190 AMG Exclusive Package on the A200 sedan. Buyers also gets the AMG Line package standard on the CLA, a $1990 option on the A200, along with keyless entry ($790) and ambient lighting ($490).

This isn't the first time Mercedes has charged more for a coupe-like look in one of its sedan-based cars. The larger CLS four-door coupe is $10,430 more expensive than the equivalent E-Class, despite their shared underpinnings.

Both the CLA200 and A200 have seats trimmed in fake 'Artico' leather, although the CLA four-door coupe gets 'sports' seats instead of the standard 'comfort' units, and both offer the same widescreen MBUX infotainment system with two 10.25-inch displays.

The CLA200 rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, and gets niceties like keyless entry and start, active parking assist with a rear-view camera, LED headlights and automatic wipers as standard.

Autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign assist are also standard.

A number of options packages will be offered, starting with the Vision Package ($2490). It brings LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

The Communications Package ($2490) adds a surround-sound audio system and head-up display, while the Exclusive Package ($2990) brings open-pore wood trim, climate-controlled front seats, and leather upholstery.
