2020 Hyundai i30 N ‘Sport’ spied

Hyundai's latest track day special has been spotted for the first time, ahead of a potential debut in Frankfurt.

Photographers have snapped a very aggressive looking Hyundai i30 N prototype near the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, likely to be a new, more track-focused variant.

The European-developed Korean hot hatch you see here is shrouded in heavy camouflage, but we can see the body kit appears to be a little beefier than the ‘standard’ model, and we can see the prototype is wearing the optional light alloy wheels available from Hyundai N’s accessories range. Other changes are expected to be a carbon-fibre bonnet, and lighter bucket seats.

It’s rumoured this new i30 N ‘Sport’ will be powered by the same 202kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo four as the current N Performance variant, with the focus on reducing weight and optimising aerodynamics for a sharper edge on track.

Rivals for the more focused i30 N will include the likes of track-oriented hatchbacks like the Honda Civic Type R and the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R.

While not confirmed at this stage, the launch of the i30 N ‘Sport’ could also coincide with the promised dual-clutch automatic transmission option that will open up the Korean hot hatch to a much wider demographic.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest updates, in the lead-up to a possible debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
