Radical Rapture: Road-legal racer revealed

Radical has used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to reveal its latest road-legal weapon, the Rapture.

Capable of hitting 98km/h (60mph) in just 3.0 seconds, and with a top speed north of 260km/h, the Rapture's performance claims are impressive, especially when you consider power comes from a 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder engine nicked from Ford. More specifically, from the Focus RS.

It puts out 260kW and 433Nm, and is mated with a six-speed sequential transaxle transmission. It's a paddle shift unit with automatic blipping on downshifts.

The body is made of carbon-fibre, draped over a lightweight chassis. It's fully FIA-compliant, just in case you want to enter the car is high-level track events.

There's a huge, fully-adjustable rear wing and diffuser, along with plenty of smaller aerodynamic touches inspired by prototype endurance racers. If you didn't know better, you could easily confuse the car for an LMP1 car that got lost on its way to Le Mans.

Inside (if you can call it that), there's a steering wheel with integrated controls for the indicators, horn and headlights, along with an LCD multifunction instrument binnacle. In keeping with the theme laid out here, it's very, very racy.

The seats are moulded racing units with inbuilt headrests, and luxuries are limited to heating and a courtesy light. You're going to want a hardcore passenger, folks.

The suspension is a fully-adjustable setup, designed "for road and track use", and the anti-roll bars are fully interchangeable. The wheels are centre-locking units, while the bespoke dampers can be tweaked as required.

Pricing starts at around £90,000 before on-road costs in the UK, equivalent to $160,000.
