2020 Toyota Yaris spied
Expressive styling, as well as greatly improved handling dynamics and fuel economy, are expected from the next-generation hatch.
The next-generation Toyota Yaris has been spied undergoing performance testing on the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Given the car's presence on the Nurburgring, we believe this is the new Yaris bound for Europe, Japan and developed markets outside of North America.
Even though the five-door hatch prototype is completely covered in camouflage, it's clear the new model will be a far more expressive design than today's model.
The flared arches and wheel-at-each-corner stance, as well as the squished rear door and side window treatment, bring to mind the first-generation Aygo.
Two prototypes were photographed by our spy agency. The one with simple black and white camouflage has a yellow electrified drivetrain sticker, and presumably harbours a hybrid powertrain.
The second car wears the black, grey, white and red camouflage used by Gazoo Racing, Toyota's tuning arm, and probably previews the more athletic, but not necessarily more powerful, GR Sport variant. This prototype also features gold alloy wheels.
Thanks to the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the next-generation Yaris is expected to be a more entertaining vehicle to drive, as well as being lighter and more fuel efficient.

Dealer sources have told CarAdvice the new Yaris will go on sale in Australia during the first half of 2020, with the hybrid variant available for the first time locally.
The new Yaris Hybrid will reportedly replace the Prius C in the company's local range.
