2018-19 Toyota Prius C recalled
49 hybrid hatches have been asked back to fix potentially faulty converters that could cause the hybrid drive system to fail.
Toyota Australia has issued a recall for the 2018-19 model-year Prius C hatchback over concerns the 12V battery will stop charging.
According to the Japanese manufacturer, “the 12-volt auxiliary battery may stop charging due to improper soldering on the circuit board in the vehicles DC/DC converter”.
If the condition occurs, warning lamps will illuminate in the instrument cluster to warn the driver of a hazard. Should the vehicle continue to be driven, Toyota says the hybrid system could shut down, causing a sudden loss of drive.
This poses a hazard to the driver and could increase the risk of an accident.
A total of 49 vehicles are affected by this recall, sold from 19 March 2018 through 29 March 2019 – the VIN list is accessible here.
Owners of the affected models will be contacted by Toyota Australia at their last known address, requesting the owner make an appointment with their preferred dealer for the inspection and replacement of the vehicle’s DC/DC converter, which will be carried out free of charge.
