2020 Audi S8 revealed

The Audi S8 sedan has been unveiled, and will be available across Europe later this year.

Under the bonnet there's a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 rated at 420kW of power and 800Nm of torque. With those types of numbers, it's no surprise to see all-wheel drive is standard.

The mild hybrid drivetrain is fitted with a 48V belt alternator starter and a lithium-ion battery pack to improve fuel economy by 0.8L/100km.

Interestingly Audi has yet to reveal the S8's performance numbers, only stating the vehicle has an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.

To improve handling, the S8 is fitted with a torque vectoring rear differential, and all-wheel steering. The predictive air suspension can raise the body by 50mm to help ingress and egress, and uses a forward-facing camera to help reduce body roll by 2.5 degrees.

Standard features include active noise cancellation, cylinder deactivation, revised styling, sportier front seats, and automatically activated flaps in the exhaust system to improve the engine note under hard driving.

Options include 21-inch alloy wheels, OLED tail-lights, matrix LED headlights, and numerous interior trim and colour packages.

The optional braking package features carbon-fibre ceramic disc brakes with a 420mm diameter and 10 piston calipers at the front, and 370mm discs at the rear.

In Canada, China, South Korea and the USA the S8 comes exclusively in long-wheelbase form.
