2020 Kia XCeed unveiled

The new Kia XCeed crossover hatch has been unveiled overnight, but it looks as though it will be an Europe-only proposition for now.

Based on the same platform and wheelbase as the Ceed hatch and Proceed wagon, the XCeed has largely unique styling, with the only external panels shared with the Ceed being the front passenger doors.

The XCeed is 26mm wider than the Ceed and thanks to bigger overhangs, it's also 85mm longer overall. Ride height has been raised by 42mm to 174mm.

Measuring 4395mm, the Kia XCeed will sit between the 4140mm Stonic and the 4480mm Sportage. With an overall height of just 1490mm, it is also intended to be a sportier alternative to the 1645mm tall Sportage.

At launch the XCeed range will be available with three turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder with 88kW/172Nm, a 103kW/242Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder, and 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre shared with the Ceed GT and Proceed GT.

For diesel buyers, there are two versions of the company's 1.6-litre turbocharged unit: one with 85kW and the other with 100kW.

Automatic engine stop/start and a six-speed manual are standard on all drivetrains. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is available on every model except the base three-cylinder petrol.

A 48V mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid will join the XCeed range in early 2020.

Available features on the XCeed include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch customisable digital instrumentation display, lane following assist, and 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Australia

According to Kia's European arm, the XCeed will be sold exclusively on the continent and in the UK.

Given the XCeed is built in Europe, and is around the same size as the recently-unveiled Seltos, an Australian launch seems unlikely.
