2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe spied with less camouflage

Sportier-looking alternative to the regular GLE is nearing production, and has revealed its front bumper and door designs.

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe has been photographed again, with the latest prototype wearing less camouflage than earlier vehicles.

These photos give us our first clear look at the GLE Coupe's front doors and lower air intake area. From what we can see, the front fascia is virtually identical to the more practical GLE.

In addition to a faster roof line, new tailgate with a flatter rear deck, and redesigned rear doors, the GLE Coupe also features tail-lights similar to the ones employed by the latest CLA.

Our spy photography agency also managed to catch a glimpse of the interior and, as expected, the dashboard seems to be lifted straight out of the regular GLE.

As with the GLE, the Coupe will be available with a configurable instrumentation display and the company's latest MBUX infotainment system.

Under the skin, the GLE Coupe rides on the same MHA platform as the latest GLE and GLS. We expect the GLE Coupe to draw its selection of drivetrains from the GLE.

The petrol engine range includes the GLE450 with a 270kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six, AMG GLE53 with a 320kW/520Nm six-cylinder, and the GLE580 360kW/700Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

Both the GLE53 and GLE580 are aided by a 48V starter generator, which can provide a 16kW/250Nm boost over short bursts.

A selection of turbo-diesel options are also available, including the GLE300d with a 180kW/500Nm 2.0-litre, and the 3.0-litre straight-six in 200kW/600Nm GLE350d and 243kW/700Nm GLE400d trims.
