Aston Martin Valhalla: AM-RB 003 gets a name

Aston Martin has given its third mid-engined collaboration with Adrian Newey and Red Bull Racing a name, dropping the AM-RB 003 moniker for something with a bit more... presence.

The limited-run hybrid coupe will be called Valhalla, named after the place warriors killed during combat are sent in Norse mythology. It's an evocative title, but it also fits into what Aston Martin calls a "fine tradition" of names beginning with 'V'.

"In following the Valkyrie we knew the Aston Martin Valhalla needed to make a strong statement of its own, yet also offer continuity and a clear connection," says Andy Palmer, Aston Martin president and CEO.

"Norse mythology contains such powerful language and rich storytelling it felt only right that the AM-RB 003 should follow the Valkyrie’s theme."

When it launches, the Valhalla will sit above the mid-engined Vanquish also revealed at the Geneva motor show, in the same way the McLaren Senna sits above the 720S.

It shares a similar carbon-fibre construction to the Valkyrie, and power will come from a twin-turbocharged V6 engine working alongside a hybrid system. Sales will start in 2021 and just 500 examples will be built, with Aston Martin claiming it's already over-subscribed.

Inside, the driver will be faced with a minimalist cockpit with two screens. One sits behind a squared-off steering wheel, the other protrudes from the minimalist centre console.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but whispers suggest it will be around £1m (AU$1.86m) in the UK, or half what Valkyrie buyers are forking out.
