2020 Mercedes-Benz E350 to launch in the US – report
New entry point to large luxury sedan to be renamed from E300 to E350, with an uprated 2.0-litre turbo.
Mercedes-Benz USA will launch a new variant of the E-Class for the 2020 model year, according to a new report.
Car and Driver says the current entry-level E300 will get a revised engine and a new name, set to be dubbed the E350.
The American publication claims the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine will be boosted to 255hp (190kW), up 14hp (10kW) on the outgoing model. Torque, meanwhile, is set to remain at 273lb-ft (370Nm),
Drive will be sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic as standard, with 4Matic all-wheel drive available as an option, as per the current model.
As for performance, it's expected the additional grunt should make an incremental improvement over the current E300, which claims to accelerate from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in 6.2 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz has already added the more powerful turbo four to the smaller C-Class, along with the GLC and GLE SUVs.
The company is yet to make an official announcement at this stage.
Australia
Speaking with CarAdvice, Mercedes-Benz's local product communications manager, Ryan Lewis, said: "We take a keen interest in new developments within the model ranges we offer in Australia, but at this stage there’s no news I’m able to confirm regarding additional E-Class variants for our market".
In Australia the current range kicks off with the E200 (from $92,600) which is powered by a 145kW/320Nm version of the company's 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
