Fiat has revealed the Ducato Electric, the first full-electric model to be launched under the Fiat Professional commercial banner.

Slated for launch next year, the Ducato Electric is "being developed through an innovative pilot project with no trade-off in terms of load and performance", according to the Italian brand.

Details on the powertrain and range are still to be confirmed at this stage, though the company's statement that the electric Ducato has been "designed and developed by the FCA Group" suggests it may not be identical to the related Peugeot Boxer Electric confirmed for later this year – though powertrain details aren't confirmed for that, either.

"The Fiat Ducato has been the European market leader for the last five years, as well as the leading vehicle as a base for motorhomes in Europe, with approximately three in every four motorhomes sold are based on the Fiat Ducato," the company says in its UK press release.

FCA has indicated the Ducato Electric will be available to pre-order later this year, ahead of a 2020 launch.

Australia

Speaking with CarAdvice, an FCA spokesperson said: "At this stage, we're not in a position to comment on local availability of the Fiat Ducato EV".
