The Raging Bull's off-road supercar might head into production thanks to 3D printing technology.

In order to keep sales ticking over, the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato concept might be trundling down the production line in the not-too-distant future.

Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's chief technical officer, has told Automobile magazine the "provisional business case suggests that we can build [the Sterrato] at a profit".

The plan rests on making "all restyled or new body panels, claddings, ducts, and splitters on 3D printers".

Sources have told Automobile there proposals to put the Sterrato into a limited production run of between 500 and 1000 units.

As the Huracan won't be replaced until 2024, the company is planning on launching one limited edition every year to keep interest levels up and sales healthy.

Rumours hint at an STO (Super Trofeo Omologato) in 2020, followed by the Sterrato in 2021, a Huracan hybrid in 2022, and a Superveloce variant in 2023.

Based on the Huracan Evo, the Sterrato has a 477kW 5.2-litre V10, all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, torque vectoring, 30mm wider track, wheel arch protectors, underbody protection, and an altered suspension setup that's 47mm taller than normal.
