Nissan preparing electric training centre in Victoria
The new centre will be bundled in with the brand's fresh headquarters in Mulgrave, Victoria, and is set to open in 2020.
Nissan Australia will build its new national headquarters and electric vehicle training centre in Melbourne, creating 60 new jobs in the process.
The training centre will be used to train dealers, engineers and technicians from New Zealand and Australia on the new world of Nissan electric vehicles, first of which is the Leaf hatchback.
Nissan is currently headquartered in Dandenong South, Victoria, where 400 people are employed. The new training centre will create 60 more jobs.
A new purpose-built facility in Mulgrave will house both head office and the training centre, and is set to open late in 2020.
“A national base for many automotive manufacturers, Victoria has a strong automotive fabric and a talented workforce that is perfectly suited to the demands of the industry," said Stephen Lester, Nissan Australia managing director.
Along with its office, Nissan has a global casting plant in Dandenong. It's the company's only casting plant outside Japan with engineers on staff to design new parts to order, and currently pumps out 2.6 million aluminium castings every year.
