Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition sold out Down Under

Mazda's very orange MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition has sold out in Australia, with the majority headed for Victoria.

A third of Australia's 30-unit allocation is headed to Victoria, while nine will make their way to New South Wales, four to Queensland, three to the ACT, two to South Australia and one to Tasmania.

Mazda offered the car to "loyal MX-5 customers on a first come, first served basis" – reaching out to owners with an electronic campaign.

Revealed at the Chicago motor show in March, the special edition is finished in a special shade of Racing Orange on the outside, around the interior, and on the brake calipers.

It also gets a numbered build plate, Recaro seats, and a smattering of Alcantara interior trim pieces. It rides on a set of forged Rays alloy wheels, attached to Bilstein dampers.

There's no extra power, though. The MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition has the same naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine used in the regular range, making the same 135kW and 205Nm.

Those add-ons don't come cheap. Priced from $49,990 before on-road costs, the 30th Anniversary Edition is over $7000 pricier than the most expensive GT 2.0-litre soft top, and $2070 more expensive than the RF GT with its folding hardtop.
