2020 Peugeot Boxer revealed for Europe, EV added

Revised range adds electric option along with new lifestyle-themed variants.

Peugeot has detailed the updated Boxer van for Europe, headlined by revised Euro 6.2-compliant engines and the option of all-electric power.

Scheduled to go on sale in the region later in 2019, the Boxer – which is the French version of the Fiat Ducato – will launch three new versions of its new 2.2-litre BlueHDi four-cylinder turbo-diesel from July 2019, ahead of mandatory compliance with the new Euro 6.2 emissions standard in September.

Outputs range from 120hp (89kW) to 165hp (123kW), with torque starting at 300Nm and topping out at 370Nm. All versions get power bumps of 5-10hp, while the top-spec version gets an additional 20Nm of torque.

All powertrain variants get idle stop/start technology as standard. The company has confirmed an all-electric version will go on sale in Europe before the end of the year.

In addition to the powertrain changes, the Boxer will now offer new GRIP and ASPHALT variants that offer different personalities tailored to specific conditions.

First is the Grip, which is "perfectly adapted to difficult terrain while carrying heavy and long loads".

Highlights include the company's Grip Control system with hill assist and descent control, all-season tyres, front and rear mudflaps, reinforced suspension, underbody protection, and the comfort seat pack.

The Asphalt, meanwhile, is "dedicated to professionals who spend a lot of time in their vans and who particularly want comfort and safety features".

Specifications include in-built satellite navigation, lane departure warning, speed limit recognition, Peugeot Smartbeam Assistance, autonomous emergency braking, air-conditioning, smartphone and tablet holders, USB charging, rear-view camera with parking sensors, full wheel trims, LED daytime-running lights, and Distance Alert.

There's also blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, along with trailer merge assist for extended blind-spot monitoring when the Boxer is towing a trailer.

Speaking with CarAdvice, Peugeot's PR manager, Tyson Bowen, said the following:

"Our variants will not feature the Euro 6.2 drivetrains, similarly GRIP variants (those featuring Grip Control) will not be offered locally."

"More details around our variants will be available closer to launch in late Q3," he added.
