Skoda Karoq Velo concept revealed

Skoda UK has created the Karoq Velo concept, a purpose-built version of its crossover designed to cater for avid cyclists.

Drawing upon the company's mantra of 'Simply Clever', along with the responses to a survey of 1500 British cyclists, the Karoq Velo concept features a host of cycling-focused equipment like a washing machine and drone station.

The spin-cycle washing machine use the same water supply as an integrated pressure washer, allowing cyclists to clean their gear after a ride – 27% of survey respondents said returning to the car in damp kit is a major downside of riding.

Meanwhile, 31% of respondents said mechanical issues on their bicycles were also a major bugbear, so Skoda added a full tool kit to allow for puncture repairs on the fly. There's a set of built-in LED lights for any repairs required at night, too.

Being able to carry multiple bikes was another priority for cyclists based on results from the survey (37% wanted easy-to-use racks), so the Karoq Velo features racking for two bikes on the roof of the vehicle, along with space for a third inside. Even with the third bicycle and other equipment in place, there's still room for three adults across the first and second rows.

Rounding out the key concept features is a magnetic landing pad for a Follow Me drone that can follow the cyclist and take photos while n the move. The vehicle also features a built-in WiFi hotspot so riders can remotely upload footage of their ride when they return to the Karoq Velo.

While the Karoq Velo remains a concept for the time being – meaning its various features aren't for sale – the vehicle will be used during the European summer to assist cyclists ahead of races and competitions.
