Bentley Continental GT to attempt Pikes Peak record
The British luxury marque will seek to oust its corporate stablemate, Porsche, as the holder of the hill climb's production car record.
The livery of the Bentley Continental GT coupe which will compete in this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has been revealed.
As part of the company's centenary celebrations, the car will wear the number 100 when it goes up the mountain in Colorado.
To be raced by Rhys Millen, Bentley is hoping the lightly modified Continental GT will be able to set a new Time Attack 2 production car record.
The current record of 10 minutes 26.896 seconds was set in 2015 by David Donner in a 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S.
Changes to the car include racing seats, a roll cage, and an on-board oxygen system to connected to Millen's helmet.
The course is between 2.8km and 4.3km above sea level, meaning the air is a third less dense than at sea level. The extra oxygen should help to minimise any altitude sickness felt by the driver.
The 2019 Pikes Peak hill climb will take place on June 30, local time.
Last year, a Bentley Bentayga driven by Millen set a new record for the fastest production SUV with a time of 10 minutes 49.902 seconds, besting the old record of 12 minutes 35.610 seconds held by a 2014 Range Rover Sport.
