Audi RS3 to re-enter the market ‘at the end of the year’

Audi Australia has indicated the RS3 hyper hatch and sedan, which have been on a hiatus for the past few months, should become available in Aussie showrooms again before year's end.

Following the implementation of stricter WLTP emissions testing across Europe late last year, numerous manufacturers, including Audi and its Volkswagen parent, have been scrambling to make their vehicles compliant, resulting in production delays.

The company had a decent level of stock brought into Australia before the production line stopped for its baby Rennsport model, though it's been unavailable for several months now.

Speaking with Drive, Audi Australia's corporate communications manager, Shaun Cleary, said: "[The] RS3 is expected to be available once again in Australia at the end of the year".

Back in March the local arm didn't have firm timing on when we could expect RS3 orders open again, so this will be good news for those looking to get one straight from the factory.

The company recently re-introduced a WLTP-compliant version to the European market, hence why production can start again.

At this stage it appears the RS3's 294kW/480Nm outputs from its singing 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo are unchanged.

It's not just the RS3 that has felt the strain caused by WLTP production delays, either, as the all-electric e-tron SUV has had it's Australian launch pushed back until 2020 as head office works through a backlog of orders.
