Cadillac prepping hotter CT4-V and CT5-V variants

Cadillac has revealed it is working on more powerful variants of the CT4-V and CT5-V, after both models received a frosty reception at launch.

Cadillac has confirmed it's working on higher-performance models to sit above the just-unveiled CT4-V and CT5-V sedans, prototypes of which were displayed at Belle Island near Detroit, Michigan.

The latest announcement is very likely a response to online reception received by both cars after their unveiling last week, which was as frosty as the ones dished out to Steve Smith and David Warner in England.

Much of the opprobrium centred around the fact both models have significantly less power and torque than the cars they seemingly replace.

The CT4-V is powered by a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 239kW of power and 500Nm of torque. That’s well down on the ATS-V, which had a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6 rated at 346kW/603Nm.

Similarly the CT5-V's 265kW 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 pales in comparison to CTS-V's supercharged 6.2-litre V8, which had a hefty 477kW of power and 853Nm of torque to its name.

Cadillac describes the two models previewed today as being the “next step in Cadillac’s V-Series performance legacy", although it’s unclear what will power them, what names they will wear or when they'll go on sale.

One possible candidate for the CT5-V's more powerful sibling is the Blackwing 373kW/777Nm 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 used by the larger CT6-V sedan.
