Karma debuts two concept cars

One is a Pininfarina-designed coupe, and the other a roadster pointing to the company's all-electric future.

Much as we like to cover everything automotive, occasionally one or two things slip under our radar. Case in point, the Karma GT coupe concept and Karma SC1 Vision concept, both of which were unveiled around Anzac Day this year.

GT coupe concept

The GT coupe concept was designed by Pininfarina, and is based on the Revero GT sedan. In addition to having two fewer doors than the donor vehicle, the GT concept features a completely unique body.

Updated early this year, the Revero GT features an electric drivetrain with 400kW of power and 746Nm of torque for a 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of 4.5 seconds.

Pure electric range is rated at 129 kilometres, with the standard 1.5-litre BMW three-cylinder range extender engine capable of boosting overall range to 579km.

The GT coupe concept is "intended to gauge customer interest", and it's not clear yet if Karma plans to put the coupe into production.

SC1 Vision concept

While based on the Revero platform, the SC1 Vision has an all-electric drivetrain and a wheelbase that's around 305mm shorter.

The company says the SC1 Vision previews the design of its next generation of vehicles, which is said to include coupes, sedans, coupes, convertibles and crossovers.

For these new vehicles Karma will develop its own battery chemistry, and these new battery packs will be integrated as fully stressed members into the next-generation platform.

The concept's design is said to be inspired by Howard Hughes' 1935 H-1 Racer aircraft, and includes articulated wing-style doors.

According to Karma, the SC1 Vision has eight radars, six LIDAR units, and six cameras for Level 4 autonomous driving capability. It also features an augmented reality display, and a 3D surround sound system with active noise cancellation.
