Chevrolet has continued its rollout of good-looking SUVs we're unlikely to see in Australia, overnight revealing the Trailblazer to sit between the Trax and North American-only Blazer.

With looks inspired by the Blazer, the Trailblazer is designed to slot between the mid-sized Equinox (which is bigger than rivals like the CX-5 and Sportage) and compact Trax in the Chevrolet range.

Details about the car are this at the moment, but Chevrolet is promising the car will have autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning as standard.

Adaptive cruise control, rear park assist and a 'high-definition rear-view camera' will be optional.

In top-spec RS guise, the Trailblazer will be offered with a two-tone roof/body, big wheels and a smattering of RS badges. Beyond that, we're in the dark.

Chevrolet says more details will be revealed in due course but, given the car likely shares its platform with the new Buick Encore, expect to see the latest range of GM 'EcoTec' engines and a nine-speed automatic transmission.


We contacted Holden to see if it's planning on getting the Trailblazer to our market, and the company said it doesn't comment on future product. Hmmm.

Should it come down under, it's unlikely to wear the Trailblazer badge, given it's currently applied to a seven-seat body-on-frame SUV, but the same car is being offered as the Tracker in China.

As with the Blazer, the issue is likely to lie in supply for right-hand drive markets.
