Skoda Mountiaq: Concept Kodiaq ute taking shape

The student-designed concept will be revealed next month, but we already know it'll be a tougher, rougher take on the Kodiaq.

Skoda's student-developed ute concept is taking shape ahead of its reveal next month, with teaser images revealing some of the changes being made to its Kodiaq underpinnings.

The new Mountiaq Concept will be a pickup (picqup?) based on the Kodiaq SUV, wearing gear like a front-mounted winch, 17-inch wheels and a Sunset Orange paint finish. We also know there will be an LED light bar on the roof and backlit elements in the grille.

When it launches, the Mountiaq will be the sixth student-designed 'Azumi' car. It'll be the first with its own logo, which will be stitched into the car's headrests, and the first based on one of Skoda's large cars.

The team behind it includes mechanics, electricians, metalworkers and painters. Apparently, the car was pitched to the Skoda board, which reinforced the fact "keeping to the schedule and deadlines is of paramount importance" to the project. Don't hand in your homework late, kids.

Previous student concepts include the Citijet, a two-door convertible Citigo, and a compact ute based on the Fabia. Last year's concept was a convertible version of the Karoq, dubbed the Sunroq.
